Why Pidgin Deserves Serious Documentation
Language evolves because people use it.
That sounds obvious, but it has important consequences.
Every generation creates expressions, modifies meanings, borrows words, and develops new ways of communicating.
Pidgin is a powerful example of this process.
It is flexible, expressive, and deeply embedded in everyday communication across different communities.
Yet informal languages are often treated as if they are less worthy of documentation simply because they do not always follow the structures associated with formal English.
That distinction matters.
A language does not become valuable only after an institution recognizes it.
Documentation can help preserve vocabulary, meanings, expressions, grammar, usage patterns, and cultural context.
Formalization does not necessarily mean forcing a living language into an artificial box.
It can mean creating enough structure for the language to be studied, taught, searched, translated, and preserved.
Technology makes this particularly interesting.
Imagine searchable dictionaries, language datasets, translation tools, educational resources, speech systems, and AI models that understand local linguistic realities properly.
None of this works well without good documentation.
Formalize Pidgin is therefore not simply a linguistic project.
It is also a technology and preservation project.
The goal is to take something people already use every day and make sure its richness is not lost, ignored, or misunderstood.
Languages carry memory.
When we document a language, we are also documenting the people who use it.

Beyond the Hype
The future of technology will not be determined only by what we can build, but by what we decide is worth building.

Who Gets Remembered?
A society remembers selectively. What we choose to preserve, forget, celebrate, or ignore shapes how future generations understand the present.

What Do We Actually Believe?
Philosophy becomes useful when it helps us examine the assumptions behind the decisions we make every day.
